All general destination information on Mauritius and Rodrigues is available on .IO country network sites, so we go
straight to the scuba diving, which is wonderful. You just have to know that Mauritius and Rodrigues,
St-Brandon and Reunion Island forms part of Mascareignes Islands and that all are great scuba diving
locations.
Mauritius has
average water temperatures of 28 degrees centigrade in the summer and 21 degrees centigrade in the
winter months, and 330 km of Mauritius’ coastlines are surrounded and protected by coral reefs
that have created a magnificent lagoon environment; you can only say that these are pretty good
conditions for diving.
With 200 different species of coral and about 430 different underwater creatures including the fish
make it a wonderful environmentto discover scuba diving.
Rodrigues has a
well-preserved marine environment with little industrial pollution. The water temperatures are less
favourable than Mauritius but are offset with around 280 species of coral, and dramatic underwater
scenery which includes caves and canyons. If all that is not enough, there is an array of marine life
such as rays, jacks, turtles and white-tipped reef sharks to admire, to mention just a few.
The island has now two marine parks, one at Mourouk in the southeast and another at Riviere Banane in
the northeast of the island. We highly recommend night dives.
The ideal months for diving are October to December, and March to April for both Mauritius and
Rodrigues. It should be noted that some dive centres in Rodrigues close in July and August.
